Dutch speed skater Knegt disqualified for obscene gestures

DRESDEN, Germany, Jan. 20 (UPI) -- Dutch speed skater Sjinkie Knegt was disqualified at a weekend event in Germany for delivering a double-barreled, single-finger salute after losing a race.

Knegt extended both of his middle fingers Sunday after finishing second to Victor Ahn of Russia in the men's 500-meter relay final of the ISU European Short Track Speed Skating Championships in Dresden, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Knegt also kicked out one of his bladed feet in Ahn's direction from several feet away as Ahn pointed both his index fingers skyward in celebration.

It was the second straight day Ahn had outraced Knegt, having snatched the 500-meter final from him Saturday.
