NHL: Columbus 5, Washington 1

COLUMBUS, Ohio, Jan. 17 (UPI) -- Two goals from Cam Atkinson led an offensive surge Friday that lifted Columbus to a 5-1 victory over Washington.

The Blue Jackets extended their winning streak to a season-best five games.

Atkinson scored the second of two Columbus goals in the first period and he finished off the scoring early in the third. Columbus also came up with scores from Ryan Johansen, James Wisniewski and Mark Letestu.

Sergei Bobrovsky earned the victory with 26 saves. The lone goal against Bobrovsky came from John Carlson midway through the second period after Columbus had built a 3-0 lead.

Philipp Grubauer opened in net for the Capitals and was removed early in the second period after giving up three goals on 14 shots. It was Washington's fourth straight loss.
