Jovanovski advances to Hobart WTA quarterfinals

HOBART, Australia, Jan. 7 (UPI) -- Bojana Jovanovski finished strong Tuesday in gaining a berth in the quarterfinals of the Hobart International tennis tournament in New Zealand.

Jovanovski, seeded eighth, beat Olivia Rogowska 3-6, 6-2, 6-0. Jovanovski was unable to finished off any of her four break chances in the first set but amassed seven breaks over the second and third sets.,

She won more than half -- 41-of-76 -- of the points off Rogowska's serve on the day. The only games she dropped after the first set came on second-set breaks.

Alison Riske also claimed a three-set, second-round win, topping Casey Dellacqua 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 despite 10 double faults and losing her serve seven times. However, she converted eight of her 20 break chances, including getting three breaks in the final set.

The first round wrapped up with third-seeded Elena Vesnina taking out Monica Puig 6-4, 6-4 with a pair of breaks in each set, and Storm Sanders ousting Peng Shuai without dropping serve.
