Garcia-Lopez advances at ATP's Heineken Open

AUCKLAND, New Zealand, Jan. 7 (UPI) -- Guillermo Garcia-Lopez posted a slight upset Tuesday in a first-round match against Robin Haase at the ATP's Heineken Open in New Zealand.

Garcia-Lopez was able to finish off a 4-6, 7-5, 7-6 (7-4) decision over Haase, who was the No. 8 seed. The match was tight throughout, ending with Garcia-Lopez winning one more point over the course of the 207-point battle.

Each player had three breaks overall -- Garcia-Lopez cashed in all three of his break chances -- and one in the third set before Garcia-Lopez edged ahead in the tiebreaker.

No. 5-seeded Philipp Kohlschreiber came away a 6-2, 3-6, 7-5 winner over Pablo Carreno Busta in a relatively brisk 1 hour, 38 minutes. The only break in the third set came in the 12th game after Kohlschreiber won 75 percent of the points on serve in the set.

Sixth-seeded Benoit Paire raced past Michal Przysiezny 6-3, 6-2 in just 49 minutes. Paire lost only six points -- two on double faults -- over nine games serving.

Also Tuesday in the first round, Donald Young topped Federico Delbonis 7-5, 6-2; Lu Yen-Hsun defeated Igor Sijsling 7-5, 7-6 (9-7), Lukas Lacko stopped Jose Rubin Statham 6-3, 6-1 and Roberto Bautista Agut got by Daniel Gimeno-Traver 6-1, 3-6, 6-4.
