ANAHEIM, Calif., Jan. 4 (UPI) -- Ben Lovejoy scored twice in one game for the first time in his career Friday, boosting Anaheim to a 5-2 win over Edmonton.
The Ducks emerged from a busy first period with a 3-2 lead and Jonas Hiller blanked the Oilers the rest of the way.
Anaheim outshot Edmonton 37-18 to join Pittsburgh as the only NHL teams with 30 victories. Pittsburgh reached the 30-win mark earlier in the evening with a victory over the New York Rangers.
This is Lovejoy's fifth NHL season and prior to Friday's game the defenseman had scored just five times in 170 games.
His two goals against the Oilers came in a span of 2:43 late in the first period. He tied the game and then put the Ducks in front on a pair of slap shots.
Tim Jackman increased the Anaheim lead in the second period and Andrew Cogliano added a third-period goal.
Anaheim won for the 12th time in 13 games.
Hiller stopped 16 shots while Ilya Bryzgalov made 32 saves in what was Edmonton's fourth straight setback.
