SAN JOSE, Calif., Jan. 3 (UPI) -- Joe Pavelski assisted on the game's first goal and scored the final one Thursday in the San Jose Sharks' 5-1 win over the Edmonton Oilers.

That was part of a 36-shot barrage the Sharks fired at Edmonton goaltender Devan Dubnyk. The Oilers had a relatively few 24 shots, 23 of which were stopped by San Jose's Antti Niemi, who improved to 22-8-6 with the win.

Bracken Kearns and Logan Couture scored goals 1:27 apart in the second period that gave the Sharks a 4-0 bulge. Nail Yakupov got Edmonton on the board with a wrist shot at the 15:39 mark of the second period.

Pavelski capped the scoring with his 17th goal of the season early in the final period, sending a slap shot past Dubnyk.
