NHL: Chicago 4, New Jersey 3

NEWARK, N.J., Jan. 3 (UPI) -- Marian Hossa scored Chicago's third goal of a hectic third period Friday and it turned out to be the game-winner in the Blackhawks' 4-3 victory over New Jersey.

Chicago boosted the NHL's largest point total to 66 and ended the Devils' brief winning streak at two games.

The Blackhawks' Patrick Sharp and the Devils' Andy Greene both scored in the second period, setting the stage for a wild final 20 minutes.

Chicago produced three goals in the first 5:34 of the third, those coming from Patrick Kane, Sharp and Hossa.

That gave the Blackhawks what appeared to be plenty of cushion, but Marek Zidlicky tallied twice for the Devils, the second of the goals coming on the power play with 6:23 remaining in regulation.

Antti Raanta avoided further damage, however, and made 24 saves to pick up the win. Martin Brodeur let in five of the 24 shots he faced.

The loss for Brodeur leaves him 11 short of 400 for his career. He has 681 victories.
