BOSTON, Jan. 3 (UPI) -- Brian Roberts put New Orleans in front by three with seven seconds to go Friday and the Pelicans hung on to defeat Boston 95-92.
The game was marred by a scary neck injury suffered by the Pelicans' Ryan Anderson, the team's leading scorer.
Anderson collided with Boston's Gerald Wallace during the fourth quarter and the game was delayed while doctors worked to determine the seriousness of the injury. Anderson was eventually taken off the court on a stretcher and transported to a nearby hospital.
New Orleans officials said Anderson had feelings in his extremities.
Boston trailed by one point after Jeff Green made two foul shots with 35 seconds to go and the Celtics had a chance to go in front only to have Avery Bradley miss a layup with 14 seconds left.
That led to Roberts going to the line and he made both attempts for a three-point lead. Jared Sullinger missed on his long-range shot that would have forced overtime.
Anthony Davis led New Orleans with 23 points, 10 of which came in the fourth quarter. Tyreke Evans scored 16 points to go with eight rebounds and six assists.
Boston was led by Bradley with 22 points. The Celtics lost their third in a row and have dropped six out of seven.
