ST. PAUL, Minn., Jan. 2 (UPI) -- Marco Scandella touched off a three-goal Minnesota second period Thursday and the Wild went on to end a six-game losing streak with a 4-1 decision over Buffalo.
After the teams played to a scoreless tie in the opening 20 minutes, Scandella and Jason Pominville scored 1:46 apart early in the middle period. Jason Zucker finished off the stanza with his first goal of the season.

Niklas Backstrom took a shutout into the third period, but it was spoiled when Matt Ellis scored with 1:12 remaining. Kyle Brodziak tacked on an empty-net goal in the final minute.
Backstrom finished with 19 saves while Miller allowed three goals on 31 shots.
