AUCKLAND, New Zealand, Jan. 1 (UPI) -- No. 2-seeded Ana Ivanovic needed only 43 minutes Wednesday to gain a spot in the quarterfinals of the ASB Classic tennis tournament in New Zealand.
Ivanovic won 65 percent of the points in a 6-1, 6-1 romp past Johanna Larsson. She took three-quarters of the points on serve and faced only one break point. She also finished off five of her eight break chances.
She took control of the match in the first set, dropping three points on serve and 11 points overall.
Ivanovic draws Kurumi Nara in the quarterfinals. Nara should also be well-rested as she took out Japanese countrywoman Ayumi Morita 6-0, 6-1 in 51 minutes. Nara won 67 percent of the points when serving and 64 percent off Morita's serve.
Also in that half of the draw, third-seeded Kristen Flipkens beat Karolina Pliskova 6-4, 6-3 and qualifier Sachie Ishizu stopped Julia Goerges 6-2, 3-6, 7-5.
An all-America quarterfinal was set when fifth-seeded Jamie Hampton came away a 6-3, 6-4 winner over Kristyna Pliskova and Lauren Davis got by Ana Konjuh 2-6, 6-2, 6-2.
Venus Williams, a third American in the top half of the draw, rallied for a 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 win over Yvonne Muesburger and Garbine Muguruza was a 1-6, 6-3, 6-3 winner over Sharon Fichman in the other second-round match.
