NHL: Chicago 1, Los Angeles 0

CHICAGO, Dec. 30 (UPI) -- Rookie Antti Raanta logged his first NHL shutout and Brandon Saad scored the game's only goal Monday, elevating Chicago over Los Angeles 1-0.

Raanta, who has filled in capably for the injured Corey Crawford during most of December, stopped all 24 shots he faced. The 24-year-old Finn was busiest in the second period with 15 saves.

Saad backed him with first-period goal as the NHL-best Blackhawks improved to 5-0-2 in their last seven games.

Another rookie goaltender, Martin Jones, was saddled with the loss for the Kings despite turning aside 29-of-30 shots.

Los Angeles fell for a third straight time.
