BUFFALO, N.Y., Dec. 29 (UPI) -- Ryan Miller stopped 49-of-50 shots in regulation and five more in a lengthy shootout Sunday, helping the Buffalo Sabres get past Washington 2-1.
Miller turned aside 15 shots in each of the first and third periods and another five in overtime before the game moved to a tiebreaker.

The Sabres goalie stopped four shooters and the Capitals' Troy Brouwer missed the net before Steve Ott finally dented Washington goalie Philipp Grubauer with a goal in the sixth round.
Miller then secured the win with a final save on Mike Green, boosting Buffalo to a fourth straight home win.
Drew Stafford got the Sabres' only regulation goal.
Brouwer scored and Grubauer made 16 saves for the Caps.
