NHL: Los Angeles 3, Colorado 2 (SO)

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 21 (UPI) -- Anze Kopitar got the only goal of a shootout and rookie goalie Martin Jones improved to 8-0 Saturday in the Los Angeles Kings' 3-2 win over Colorado.

Kopitar fired a shot past Semyon Varlamov to to begin the second round of the shootout after Jones denied Colorado's Matt Duchene in the first round.

Jones followed with stops on P.A. Parenteau and Ryan O'Reilly to secure the victory and continue his remarkable NHL debut, tying Philadelphia's Bob Froese (1982-83) for the most consecutive victories to begin a career.

He finished with 23 saves.

Jeff Carter and Justin Williams scored in regulation for the Kings, who won a third straight and ninth in 10 games.

O'Reilly supplied a goal and an assist and Erik Johnson also scored for the Avalanche.

Varlamov turned aside 37-of-39 shots.
