DALLAS, Dec. 18 (UPI) -- A late third-period goal by Colton Sceviour Tuesday gave the Dallas Stars a 3-2 win over the visiting Colorado Avalanche.
Sceviour flicked a wrist shot past Jean-Sebastian Giguere on a breakaway with 2:52 left in regulation to break a 2-2 tie and give Dallas a split in the home-and-home series with Colorado.

Ray Whitney scored two goals for the Stars. Dan Ellis made 25 saves on 27 shots.
Matt Duchene and Erik Johnson each had a goal and an assist for Colorado. Giguere stopped 25-of-28 shots on goal.
Johnson put Colorado ahead 2-1 at 10:20 of the second period, but Whitney scored on a power play at 17:19 to send the game into the third period tied 2-2.
