Pair of eagles help Bjorn to Nedbank Golf challenge title

SUN CITY, South Africa, Dec. 8 (UPI) -- Thomas Bjorn had a pair of back-nine eagles Sunday in coming from behind and winning the European Tour's Nedbank Golf Challenge.

Bjorn had eagles at the 10th and 14th holes -- both par 5s -- en route to a 7-under-par 65 and 72-hole total of 20-under 268. Even with a final-hole bogey, Bjorn finished two strokes ahead of Sergio Garcia and overnight leader Jamie Donaldson for his 15th European Tour victory.

Garcia had a strong charge of his own Sunday, using four straight birdies to close the front nine at 6-under and ending up with a 65. Donaldson had three birdies and a bogey for a 70.

Henrik Stenson had a final-round 67 and finished fourth at 16-under while Brendon De Jonge was fifth at 15-under following a 66 Sunday and Charl Schwartzel, who also was 6-under in the fourth round, was sixth at 13-under.

Garcia's strong close to the front side combined with a ninth-hole bogey by Donaldson left them tied for the lead but Bjorn passed them both with his eagle at 10th. It was his second eagle at the 547-yard hole in two days. He was 6-under on that hole for the tournament.

Four holes later Bjorn dropped in another eagle putt and his lead was three strokes. He added a birdie at 15, which was more than enough cushion for the final-hole bogey.
