Miguel Angel Jimenez repeats as Hong Kong Open winner

HONG KONG, Dec. 8 (UPI) -- Miguel Angel Jimenez used a birdie putt on the first playoff hole Sunday to defend his title at the European Tour's Hong Kong Open.

Jimenez dropped in a 18-foot putt on the 410-yard, par-4 18th while third-round leader Stuart Manley and Prom Meesawat each settled for par on the tournament's 73rd hole. It was the 20th European Tour win for Jimenez, who won at Hong Kong last year by a stroke.

At 49 years, 11 months, Jimenez is the oldest tournament winner in European Tour history, a distinction he first collected last December in Hong Kong.

Jimenez had five birdies and a bogey in the fourth round for a 4-under-par 66 that got him to 12-under for the tournament. Meesawat had two eagles, two birdies and a bogey Sunday for a 65 while Manley battled through a six-birdie, four-bogey round to shoot 68.

Jimenez hit a near-perfect drive on the playoff hole and used a wedge to get within 18 feet to the left of the hole. Meesawat missed the green short with his second shot and Manley was well off to the right. When neither made their third shots, Jimenez connected for his final birdie and the title.

Robert-Jan Derksen, with a bogey-free 65 Sunday, ended up fourth at 11-under while Javier Colomo (66 Sunday), Jose Manuel Lara (70) and Angelo Que (68) tied for fifth at 8-under.
