Luksika Kumkhum reaches WTA Top 100

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., Nov. 25 (UPI) -- Luksika Kumkhum cracked the WTA Top 100 after collecting her 10th ITF title.

Kumkhum edged Hiroko Kuwata in three sets Sunday in winning the International Tennis Federation event in Tokyo. Kumkhum improved to 10-4 in ITF finals, with all the appearances coming since October 2010.

While she's yet to reach a WTA final, Kumkhum is has won six ITF championships -- two in 2013 -- since November 2011. The win in Tokyo boosts her to No. 87 in the world rankings after she started the week at 107th.

Last week the WTA released its year-end awards and, to no surprise, No. 1-ranked Serena Williams was the tour's Player of the Year. It was the second consecutive year and fifth time overall that Williams claimed the honor.

Williams has held the No. 1 spot for the last 41 weeks and 164 weeks overall. She's 15 weeks from the total time at No. 1 by Monica Seles, who is fifth on the all-time list.

The ITF continues a busy schedule through the end of the year while the next WTA events, which begin in late December, kick off the tour's 2014 calendar. The first tournaments are in Auckland, New Zealand; Brisbane, Australia; and Shenzhen, China.
