WASHINGTON, Nov. 22 (UPI) -- Travis Moen's first goal of the season touched off an opening-period surge Friday and Montreal held on the rest of the way to edge Washington 3-2.
Moen, David Desharnais and Daniel Briere scored in a span of 4:47 to give the Canadians a 3-0 lead. Moen's goal was only his third over the past two seasons.

Peter Budaj made 25 saves in the victory, but gave up two goals to Alex Ovechkin.
Ovechkin scored on the power play late in the first period and then made things interesting by deflecting a shot past Budaj with 7:33 left in regulation. The Washington superstar leads the NHL with 19 goals.
Michal Neuvirth allowed three goals on 13 shots in the first period and eventually made 28 saves.
