WASHINGTON, Nov. 22 (UPI) -- Travis Moen's first goal of the season touched off an opening-period surge Friday and Montreal held on the rest of the way to edge Washington 3-2.
Moen, David Desharnais and Daniel Briere scored in a span of 4:47 to give the Canadians a 3-0 lead. Moen's goal was only his third over the past two seasons.
Ovechkin scored on the power play late in the first period and then made things interesting by deflecting a shot past Budaj with 7:33 left in regulation. The Washington superstar leads the NHL with 19 goals.
Michal Neuvirth allowed three goals on 13 shots in the first period and eventually made 28 saves.
