Bjorn, Streelman share World Cup of Golf lead

MELBOURNE, Nov. 21 (UPI) -- Thomas Bjorn and Kevin Streelman share the individual lead Thursday and Danish and U.S. teams have the team lead at the PGA's World Cup of Golf in Australia .

Bjorn's round included a four-putt for a double bogey but he also had seven birdies Thursday. Streelman earned his share of the individual lead despite two bogeys in the final three holes and is at 5-under-par 66.

Sixty players are invited to the ISPS Handa World Cup of Golf. They take part in both individual and team competitions. The top two players from each country have their scores combined for the team score.

Bjorn and Streelman have a one-stroke lead over C.K. Choi, Martin Laird and Stuart Manley in the individual competition while Jason Day is alone in sixth place at 3-under 68.

Bjorn's Danish teammate Thorbjorn Olesen and Streelman's U.S. partner Matt Kuchar each were even-par for the opening round, leaving the team competition tied at 5-under 137.

The Portuguese team of Ricardo Santos (69 Thursday) and Jose-Filipe Lima (71) is in third at 2-under. Teams from Canada, Scotland and South Korea are at 1-under.

Streelman was 7-under after 15 holes Thursday. He had quick birdies at Nos. 2 and 3 but raced up the leaderboard with five birdies in the span of 10-15. Bogeys at 16 and 18 dropped him back to 5-under.

A birdie at the second hole and the 6 at the par-4 fourth left Bjorn at 1-over early Thursday. But he birdied Nos. 6 and 9 to make the turn at 1-under. He had a birdie at the 11th hole and closed with three birdies over 15-18.
