ST. PAUL, Minn., Nov. 13 (UPI) -- Zach Parise and Jason Pominville scored shootout goals Wednesday to bring Minnesota a 2-1 decision over Toronto.
Minnesota won its second in a row despite problems suffered by both goaltenders.
Starter Niklas Backstrom had to leave the game in the first period after a collision involving Toronto forward Nazem Kadri. Josh Harding had originally been expected to start in goal for the Wild, but he felt ill prior to the game and gave way to Backstrom.
Harding, however, came into the contest and wound up giving up a goal on 20 shots before turning in a perfect performance in the shootout.
Mason Raymond put Toronto in front in the second period with a power-play goal and the Maple Leafs' Jonathan Bernier took a shutout deep into the contest. Parise, however, scored on a deflection with 4:17 remaining in regulation to force overtime.
Parise scored in the first round of the shootout and Pominville tallied in the third round to clinch the victory.
