Then in overtime, Marcus Johansson got free of a check by Columbus defenseman James Wisniewski and launched a shot at Sergei Bobrovsky.

The Blue Jackets goalie stopped it, but Ovechkin scored his 14th goal of the season on the rebound, enabling the Caps to break a two-game losing streak.

Joel Ward and John Carlson also scored and Braden Holtby made 24 saves.

Brandon Dubinsky, Jared Boll and Cam Atkinson each scored for Columbus, which fell for the sixth time in seven games.

Bobrovsky finished with 30 saves.
