NHL: Carolina 2, Colorado 1

RALEIGH, N.C., Nov. 12 (UPI) -- Patrick Dwyer recorded the decisive goal in the second period Tuesday and the Carolina Hurricanes handed Colorado its first road loss of the season, 2-1.

Dwyer scored less than a minute into the second period, breaking a 1-1 tie.

Jordan Staal helped out with a goal and an assist and Nathan Gerbe contributed two assists as the Hurricanes logged a third win in four games.

Justin Peters earned the victory with 33 saves.

Paul Stastny scored and Semyon Varlamov made 26 saves for the Avalanche, whose season-opening six -game road winning streak snapped.
