Win has Van Uytvanck in WTA Top 100

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., Nov. 11 (UPI) -- Alison Van Uytvanck won the last WTA tournament of the year for her first tour title and reached the Top 100 in the rankings.

Van Uytvanck topped fellow Belgian Yanina Wickmayer 6-4, 6-2 in Sunday's final of the 125K-level OEC Taipei WTA Challenger. It was the first WTA title in a career that includes nine wins on the ITF circuit. Three of those championships have come in 2013.

Van Uytvanck started the year at 200 in the rankings. After a 29-place gain this week she goes to No. 100.

Wickmayer fell to 3-6 in WTA title matches. She lost her last four finals appearances, last winning a title in January 2010. She goes from 59th to No. 51 in the rankings this week.

Serena Williams continues her stranglehold on the No. 1 spot. She leads second-ranked Victoria Azarenka by 5,214 points. Williams has been No. 1 the last 39 weeks, a streak that is 18th longest. Williams has had two longer streaks -- 57 weeks from July 2002 to August 2003 and 49 weeks from November 2009 through October 2010.

Over six stints as the world's No. 1-ranked women's tennis player, Williams has been on top for 161 weeks. That figure is sixth most with Monica Seles in fifth at 178. The record is 377 weeks by Steffi Graf.

The WTA schedule picks up in late December with tournaments in Auckland, New Zealand; Brisbane, Australia; and Shenzhen, China.
