NEW YORK, Nov. 11 (UPI) -- Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Wil Myers and Miami Marlins pitcher Jose Fernandez Monday were named the Major League Baseball Rookies of the Year.

The Baseball Writers' Association of America announced Myers had taken the American League award, becoming the third Tampa Bay Ray in six seasons to win the honors.

After being called up June 18, the 22-year-old led all AL rookies with 53 RBI while batting .293 with 13 homers in just 88 games.

Fernandez, meanwhile, claimed the National League award after compiling a 2.19 ERA -- second-best in the majors to Los Angeles Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw -- and holding opposing batters an MLB-low .182 average.

He compiled a 12-6 record with 187 strikeouts over 172 2/3 innings.
