NHL: Vancouver 4, San Jose 2

SAN JOSE, Calif., Nov. 8 (UPI) -- Chris Higgins ended a wild first period with what turned out to be the winning goal Thursday and Vancouver went on to defeat San Jose 4-2.

The Sharks, who won 10 of their first 12 games this season, have lost four in a row. This was only their second setback in regulation.

The teams combined for five goals in the first period, the last of them coming with Higgins with 1:05 to go. That put the Canucks in front 3-2 and the only other goal in the game came from Zack Kassian 5:22 into the second period.

Vancouver's first two goals came from Brad Richardson and Mike Santorelli while San Jose came up with scores from Joe Thornton and Mike Brown.

Roberto Luongo made 22 saves in the victory. Antti Niemi started for the Sharks and allowed four goals on 13 shots before being replaced by Alex Stalock.
