DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., Nov. 7 (UPI) -- A Florida police chief says he's proud of his officers' actions in a video that shows them shooting a former NFL player as he held a woman at knife point.
In releasing the video of his officers' encounter with former New York Giants player Jermaine Green, Daytona Beach Police Chief Mike Chitwood said, "I'm proud of what the officers did," the Orlando Sentinel reported Thursday.
No one was killed in the incident and "everybody went home to their families," the chief said.
The video, recorded on the officers' body cameras, was made Sept. 25 as officers arrived at a home where Green, 32, was alleged to be holding Katrina Johnson, 37, captive at knife point.
Neighbors told officers a man inside the home was going to kill Johnson. Officers shouted at Green to let the woman go, but Green pulled the woman on top of him and held a knife to her throat, the video shows.
When Green attempted to stab Johnson, police fired several times at Green. The woman was hit in the arm, Chitwood said.
A police report said Green was charged with felony aggravated battery.
