BOSTON, Nov. 2 (UPI) -- Local politicians, team management, players and fans celebrated the Boston Red Sox's 2013 World Championship with a rally and parade in the city Saturday.
"It's a magical day for us, the end of a remarkable season," Red Sox owner Tom Werner said. "It's been a fantastic year."
The Red Sox claimed their third World Series title in 10 seasons with a 6-1 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals in Game 6 Wednesday.
The festivities began at Boylston Street near Fenway Park and moved via amphibious "duck boats" toward Copley Square, close to the site of the April Boston Marathon bombings.
At the spot of the Marathon finish line, Red Sox players Jonny Gomes and Jarrod Saltalamacchia set down the World Series trophy and two team jerseys with "Boston Strong" emblazoned on the back.
The crowd sung "God Bless America" at the site.
Manager John Farrell, who guided the club to the top of the American League East after a last-place showing in 2012, said the Red Sox's accomplishment this season was "very special."
The biggest cheers went to World Series MVP David Ortiz.
"We stayed together as a family," he said. "This might be one of the teams I'm most proud of all."
