Farrell keeps 11 pitchers for Boston's World Series roster

BOSTON, Oct. 23 (UPI) -- Boston Red Sox Manager John Farrell will keep the same 25-man roster, including 11 pitchers, for the World Series that helped the team win the ALCS.

In addition to the pitchers, Ferrell will go with catchers Jarrod Saltalamacchia and David Ross, five infielders, six outfielders and designated hitter David Ortiz.

Jon Lester was selected to be Wednesday's starter against the St. Louis Cardinals in Boston in the 109th World Series.

Besides Lester, Boston pitchers for the series will be Craig Breslow, Clay Buchholz, Ryan Dempster, Felix Doubront, John Lackey, Franklin Morales, Jake Peavy, Junichi Tazawa, Koji Uehara and Brandon Workman.

The infielders are first baseman Mike Napoli, second baseman Dustin Pedroia, shortstop Stephen Drew, third baseman Xander Bogaerts and Will Middlebrooks.

The outfielders are Quintin Berry, Mike Carp, Jacoby Ellsbury, Jonny Gomes, Daniel Nava and Shane Victorino.

Boston finished the 2013 regular season with the best record in the American League at 97-65. The Red Sox beat the Tampa Bay Rays 3-1 in the best-of-five AL Division Series and the Detroit Tigers 4-2 in the AL Championship Series.
