Wozniacki picks up WTA title No. 21 at Luxembourg

LUXEMBOURG, Oct. 20 (UPI) -- World No. 9-ranked Caroline Wozniacki collected her first WTA title of 2013 with a straight-set win Sunday over Annika Beck in Luxembourg.

Wozniacki's last previous tournament win came a year ago at the Kremlin Cup but she bypassed that event this year for the BGL BNP Paribas Open in Luxembourg. She was the top seed for the tournament and dropped just one set in taking the title.

She wrapped the tournament up with a 6-2, 6-2 decision over Beck, who was making her first appearance in the WTA final.

Wozniacki was 0-for-3 in trying to save break points Sunday but had seven breaks in Beck's eight games serving. Wozniacki won 59 percent of the points on serve and 62 percent off Beck's serve.

The win was the 21st Wozniacki's career, which is fourth on the list of active WTA players. She's won at least one tournament each year since her first title at Stockholm, Sweden in August 2008.

The title was worth about $44,000 to Wozniacki, who passed the $15.6 mark in career winnings. Beck, 19 and a professional since 2008, won $22,000 Sunday, giving her more than $462,000 in her career.
