Ninyette leads European Tour event in Australia

KARRINYUP, Australia, Oct. 19 (UPI) -- Brody Ninyette had four birdies in a five-hole span Saturday in moving to the front of the European Tour's ISPS Handa Perth International tournament.

Ninyette, a local favorite in Western Australia, finished the third round with a 5-under-par 67 and is at 8-under 208 after 54 holes. He's one stroke up on Jin Jeong, J.B. Hansen and Brett Rumford going into the final round. Rumford, with eight birdies and a bogey, tied the Lake Karrinyup Country Club course record with a 65 Saturday while Hansen had a 66 and Jeong shot a second-round 69.

Fredrik Andersson Hed (68 Saturday), Richard Finch (69), Ross Fisher (71), James Nitties (69) and Jason Scrivener (68) are tied for fifth at 6-under.

Second-round leader Peter Hedblom had six bogeys and three birdies in a 3-over 75 and slid into a tie for 13th at 4-under for 54 holes.

Ninyette, who was at even par through the first 27 holes of the tournament had three consecutive birdies over Nos. 10-12 Friday to get moving in the right direction. He kept the momentum up Saturday with three birdies and a bogey on the front nine. He had a bogey at the par-5 11th but came back with a birdie at the 12th, a par 3.

Birdies at 14, 15 and 16 left him in the lead.
