Sabine Lisicki advances to semifinals in Luxembourg

LUXEMBOURG, Oct. 18 (UPI) -- Sabine Lisicki posted a third-set shutout Friday in grabbing the final semifinal berth at the WTA's Luxembourg Open.

Lisicki, the No. 3 seed in the tournament, had six breaks in a 7-5, 4-6, 6-0 decision over Karin Knapp. After Knapp evened the match at a set each, Lisicki went on a tear, winning 78 percent of the third set point.

Lisicki was 12-of-13 points on serve and 14-of-20 when Knapp served in the set.

She'll face top-seeded Caroline Wozniacki in the semifinals Saturday. Wozniacki also went three sets before getting past No. 8-seeded Bojana Jovanovski 6-3, 3-6, 6-3.

Wozniacki managed to save just one of the five break points she faced but didn't allow Jovanovski a break chance in the final set.

Stefanie Voegele ousted second-seeded Sloane Stephens 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 with nine breaks in 13 games that Stephens served. Voegele finished off half of her six break opportunities in the final set to advance.

Annika Beck battled Katarzyna Piter for 3 hours, 12 minutes in a 6-3, 6-7 (3-7), 7-6 (7-5) victory. Beck won six more over the 236 points in the match than Piter managed. Each player had three breaks in the second set and one in the third, forcing tiebreakers.

Wozniacki is 2-2 versus Lisicki going into the semifinals. Beck is 1-0 against Voegele in her career.

The formal name of the tournament is the BGL BNP Paribas Luxembourg Open.
