Vinci comes from behind for Kremlin Cup match win

MOSCOW, Oct. 16 (UPI) -- Second-seeded Roberta Vinci came from behind for a second-round win Wednesday at the WTA's Kremlin Cup tennis tournament in Moscow.

Vinci won just four points when receiving serve in the first set before rallying for a 2-6, 6-1, 6-4 win over Elena Vesnina. Vesnina won 80 percent of the points on serve in the first set but Vinci limited her to less than half of those points the rest of the way and had four breaks to advance.

She draws eighth-seeded Svetlana Kuznetsova in the next round. Kuznetsova topped Sofia Arvidsson 6-2, 7-5. She had seven aces, won two-thirds of the points while serving and finished off five break chances off Arvidsson's serve.

Two other seeded players failed to reach the quarterfinals. Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova ousted third-seeded Maria Kirilenko 6-3, 6-3 by converting four of her five break opportunities and Alisa Kleybanova stopped sixth-seeded Carla Suarez Navarro 7-6 (7-2), 6-4 behind an 11-ace attack.

No. 7-seeded Samantha Stosur, coming off a tournament win Sunday in Osaka, Japan, claimed a 6-3, 6-1 first-round victory over Kaia Kanepi. Stosur won 62 percent of the points in the match.
