Patriots' Jerod Mayo could miss season with torn pectoral muscle

FOXBOROUGH, Mich., Oct. 16 (UPI) -- New England Patriots linebacker Jerod Mayo had surgery Tuesday to repair a torn pectoral muscle, typically a season-ending injury, a news website reported.

Yahoo Sports said Wednesday the injury, confirmed by two sources, is a blow to the Patriots, who beat New Orleans Sunday but had four players injured in the game.

In addition to Mayo, the team's leading tackler with 55 total tackles and 35 solo tackles, New England wide receiver Danny Amendola and guard Dan Connolly each suffered head injuries and cornerback Aqib Talib hurt his leg, although he returned to the game.
