NHL hands Sabres' Patrick Kaleta handed 10-game suspension

NEW YORK, Oct. 15 (UPI) -- Oft-suspended Buffalo Sabres forward Patrick Kaleta was handed a 10-game sanction Tuesday after delivering a hit to the head of an opponent.

The NHL announced Kaleta would again be banned for his actions against Columbus defenseman Jack Jackson early in an Oct. 10 game against the Blue Jackets.

League discipline chief Brendan Shanahan said Kaleta made an inappropriate check to Johnson's head on the play, made worse by the fact the 26-year-old winger "has been fined or suspended six times in the last four seasons."

Kaleta's last suspension came in March, when he drew a five-game ban for incident involving Brad Richards of the New York Rangers.

He has already missed the last two games for the winless Sabres while awaiting the disciplinary hearing.
