DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., Oct. 14 (UPI) -- Angelique Kerber's win at the Generali Ladies Linz tournament doesn't improve her world ranking but did merit an invitation to the WTA Championships. Kerber, No. 10 in the world, defeated Ana Ivanovic in straight sets Sunday for the title in Austria. The victory was her third in the WTA but first in three finals appearances this year.

Her success in Austria allowed her to lock up the final spot in the TEB BNP Paribas WTA Championships, which begin next week in Istanbul.
The standings to earn a WTA Championship invitation are determined in calendar-year results while the overall rankings consider a 52-week rolling point total.
The WTA Championships will feature eight of the Top 10 women in the rankings. No. 3-ranked Maria Sharapova qualified but withdrew because of a shoulder injury. Caroline Wozniacki, ninth in the rankings, missed out on an invitation.
Kerber remains 10th in the rankings while Ivanovic moves up two places to 14th. The other WTA tournament last week saw Samantha Stosur win the HP Japan Women's Open Tennis title over Eugenie Bouchard. Stosur goes from 20th to No. 19 in the rankings while Bouchard is up three places to 32nd.
Wozniacki is the No. 1-seed at the BGL BNP Paribas Luxembourg Open, opting to play that tournament rather than the Kremlin Cup, which she won last year. Kerber was to have played at the Kremlin Cup by Bank of Moscow this week but withdrew citing an abdominal strain. That leaves No. 11-ranked Roberta Vinci as the highest ranked player at the event.
