CHICAGO, Oct. 12 (UPI) -- Corey Crawford stopped 28 shots Saturday, including 12-of-13 in the third period, and the Chicago Blackhawks held off winless Buffalo 2-1.
Chicago used goals from Ben Smith and Patrick Kane to take a 2-0 lead into the third period, and the Sabres responded with a desperate blitz in the Blackhawks' zone.

But Crawford yielded only a tally by Drew Stafford midway through the period, staking Chicago to its third win in five games beginning the season.
Ryan Miller turned aside 38-of-40 shots for Buffalo, which fell to 0-5-1.
