NHL: Montreal 4, Edmonton 1

EDMONTON, Alberta, Oct. 11 (UPI) -- Peter Budaj made 28 saves in his first start of the season Thursday, boosting Montreal to a 4-1 win over Edmonton.

Carey Price had given up eight goals in his three appearances for the Canadiens, but Budaj surrendered only a power-play tally to Ryan Smyth early in the second period.

That goal gave Edmonton the lead, but Montreal took over from there, seizing a 2-1 advantage by the end of the second period on scores from Brandan Gallagher and Brandon Prust.

Alex Galchenyuk gave the Canadiens some breathing room with 7:15 to go in the third and Max Pacioretty scored into an empty net with 18 seconds left.

Devan Dubnyk allowed three goals on 27 shots to take the loss.
