SAN JOSE, Calif., Oct. 9 (UPI) -- Rookie Tomas Hertl scored four goals Tuesday to lead the San Jose Sharks in a 9-2 romp over the New York Rangers.
Hertl's big night included two goals in the second period and two more in the third and made him the first player in NHL history to scored six goals in the first three games of his career.
The Sharks outshot the visiting New Yorkers 47-20 and improved the Sharks record to 3-0.
Justin Braun, Marc-Edouard Vlasic, Matthew Nieto, Logan Couture and Dan Boyle also tallied for San Jose. Antti Niemi made 18 saves in the win.
New York's Henrik Lundqvist was pulled from the game after allowing four goals on 26 shots. Martin Biron came in and was lit up for five scores on 21 shots.
Brad Richards staked New York to a 1-0 lead on a power-play goal at 3:27 of the first period. Derek Dorsett added a goal in the third period that trimmed San Jose's lead to 6-2.
