LINZ, Austria, Oct. 7 (UPI) -- Stefanie Voegele had a near-perfect third set Monday in gaining a spot in the second round of the Generali Ladies Linz WTA tennis tournament in Austria.

After getting her serve broken five times in the first two sets, Voegele saved both break points she faced in the third set while finishing off three of her eight chances. She won two-thirds of the points in the set.

Francesca Schiavone got past Karolina Pliskova 7-5, 6-2 with a pair of breaks in each set. Schiavone dropped just seven points on serve in the second set.

Also Monday, Elina Svitolina topped Mona Barthel 6-2, 7-5 by wining more than half -- 38-of-74 -- the points when Barthel served.

World No. 2 Victoria Azarenka won the tournament last year with a 6-3, 6-4 decision over Julia Goerges. Azarenka, however, isn't entered this year. No. 9 Angelique Kerber is the highest ranked player in the 2013 Linz field.
