New Jersey race added to 2014 F1 schedule

LONDON, Sept. 27 (UPI) -- The Grand Prix of America, to be held on a street course along the Hudson River, was added to the 2014 Formula One schedule released Friday.

It will be one of two F1 races held in the United States next year, the other one coming in Austin, Texas.

New races in Austria, Mexico and Russia were also included on the 2014 calendar, which will include 22 events.

The Grand Prix of America has been scheduled for June 1 and will take place the week after the annual highlight attraction of the F1 schedule -- the Monaco Grand Prix.

A 3.2-mile circuit will be used, one that runs through the New Jersey towns of Weehawken and West New York.

Organizers had hoped the site could host a race in 2013, but the plans had to be postponed for a year due to a lack of sponsorship money.
