SOCHI, Russia, Sept. 26 (UPI) -- International Olympic Committee officials said Thursday the "spirit of the Games is awakening" in Sochi, Russia, four months before the 2014 Winter Olympics.
The IOC's Coordination Commission completed its final visit to Sochi ahead of the 2014 Games, which open Feb. 7.
"We often say that there is no time to waste as the clock ticks down to the Opening Ceremony and this still stands true," Commission Chairman Jean-Claude Killy said Thursday. "But to see how far the local organizers have come over the last six years is quite simply remarkable.
"The competition venues are ready. The spirit of the Games is awakening here. And the athletes, spectators and all others who visit next February can expect a fabulous experience."
Commission members visited both mountain and coastal areas where Olympics events will be conducted.
"With 134 days to go until the Opening Ceremony, we have demonstrated to the IOC that Russia is ready for the Games and only the final touches of our preparations remain," said Sochi 2014 President Dmitry Chernyshenko.
The Olympic Torch relay for the 2014 Games begins Sunday with the lighting of the flame at the Temple of Hera in Greece.
After a weeklong trip through Greece, the flame is to reach Moscow Oct. 6 for what is being billed as the longest Olympic torch relay. Some 14,000 torchbearers are to carry the flame more than 40,000 miles across Russia over 123 days.
