MLB: New York Mets 1, Cincinnati 0

CINCINNATI, Sept. 25 (UPI) -- Daisuke Matsuzaka allowed four hits over 7 2/3 innings in the New York Mets' 1-0 win over Cincinnati, whose division title chances came to an end Wednesday.

The loss, combined with St. Louis' 4-1 win over Washington, ended the Reds' chances of winning the NL Central. Cincinnati will be in the playoffs but, as the records stand, would be the visiting team for the NL wild-card game.

Matsuzaka (3-3) didn't give up more than one hit in any inning Wednesday. He walked two and struck out six. In his last four outings, Matsuzaka is 3-0 with a 1.37 ERA.

Reliever Pedro Feliciano issued a walk before getting the final out in the eighth and LaTroy Hawkins got the Reds out in order in the ninth for his 13th save.

The Mets only managed four hits themselves but had two of them in the third inning.

Cincinnati starter Mat Latos (14-7) hit Wilfredo Tovar with a pitch to open the inning and Matsuzaka sacrificed Tovar to second. Eric Young followed with an RBI single. Justin Turner also had a base hit in the inning.
