NINGBO, China, Sept. 25 (UPI) -- Bojana Jovanovski won for the 11th time in 12 matches with a straight-set quarterfinal decision Wednesday at the WTA's 125 tournament in China.
Jovanovski, the No. 1 seed this week, collected seven wins in taking the title at Tashkent and, while she went out in the second round last week, has won all three of her matches this week. Her latest victory was a 6-1, 7-5 decision against Anna Schmiedlova.
Jovanovski finished off all four of her break opportunities, with the final one coming in the 11th game of the second set. Although she lost her serve once, Jovanovski won 70 percent of the points on serve.
Zhang Shuai continued her winning ways with a 6-4, 7-6 (12-10) quarterfinal win over Anabel Medina Garrigues. Zhang, counting an ITF event two weeks ago, is also 11-1 in recent tournaments. Each player dropped serve twice in the second set before Zhang decided the match in the extended tiebreaker.
Also Wednesday, fourth-seeded Yvonne Meusburger defeated No. 7-seeded Yaroslava Shvedova 6-2, 6-4 with four second-set breaks and Johanna Larsson advanced when, after Larsson pulled even at 2-6, 6-3, Johanna Konta retired.
The wins by Meusburger and Zhang set up a rematch from last week's semifinals when Zhang was a 6-1, 6-1 winner to improve her career mark to 2-3 versus Meusburger. Jovanovski, having won the only previous meeting between the two, goes against Larsson in Thursday's semifinals.
The formal name of the tournament is the Yinzhou Bank Cup International Women's Tennis Open.
