Glennon replaces Freeman as Tampa Bay's quarterback

TAMPA, Fla., Sept. 25 (UPI) -- Mike Glennon, a third-round pick in last summer's NFL draft, was named the starting quarterback of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the team said Wednesday.

Tampa Bay Coach Greg Schiano said Glennon will replace Josh Freeman at quarterback as of Sunday's game against Arizona (1-2) at home.

The Buccaneers (0-3) are 31st in total offense (282.0 yards) and points (11.3) per game. The Jacksonville Jaguars are the only team behind Tampa Bay in those categories.

Freeman completed only 45.7 percent of his passes for 571 yards. He threw two touchdown passes and was intercepted three times. His quarterback rating is 59.3, which is the lowest in the league this season.

Schiano said the decision to make the change as quarterback was "performance-based."
