Team USA continues America's Cup comeback with Race 16 win

SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 23 (UPI) -- Defending champion Oracle Team USA continued an improbable rally at the 34th America's Cup Monday, besting Emirates Team New Zealand in Race 16.

Facing elimination for the fifth straight race, the Americans once again stayed alive with a wire-to-wire win on San Francisco Bay, pulling to within 8-6 after trailing 8-1 last week.

The first team to 9 points wins the regatta.

Team USA won Monday's race by 33 seconds after leading the entire way, pulling away during the final upwind leg.

Race 17, originally scheduled for Monday, was rescheduled for Tuesday after passing the cutoff time for a second race.
