NEW YORK, Sept. 21 (UPI) -- Ivan Nova threw his second career shutout Saturday and the New York Yankees kept their post-season hopes alive with 6-0 whitewash of San Francisco.

The shutout came less than a month after Nova's first career shutout -- an Aug. 31 three-hitter against the Baltimore Orioles.

Eduardo Nunez belted a two-run homer and Alfonso Soriano added a solo shot for New York, which came into the contest three games out of the second and final American League wild-card spot.

The Yanks took a second straight from the Giants, clinching their three-game interleague series.

San Francisco starter Ryan Vogelsong (3-6) was reached for five runs on five hits in a five-inning stint.
