MLB: Toronto 6, New York Yankees 2

TORONTO, Sept. 19 (UPI) -- Anthony Gose and Adam Lind both hit home runs Thursday that helped lift Toronto to a 6-2 win over the New York Yankees.

The Yankees have lost five of their last six to see their once promising playoff hopes begin to fade. They began the evening 2 1/2 games out of the second wild card berth in the American League.

New York went 4-6 on an extended road trip and now will play two series at home against San Francisco and Tampa Bay before ending the campaign with three contests in Houston.

Toronto owned a 2-1 lead in the sixth when Gose hit a solo homer. It was the third long ball of his career and his second this season, the other one having been a grand slam on Sept. 10.

Lind boosted the Toronto lead in the eighth with a three-run shot.

Todd Redmond (4-2) went seven innings to claim the win, giving up a run on four hits with seven strikeouts. The loss went to Hiroki Kuroda (11-12), who was touched for three runs on eight hits in six frames.
