VIRGINIA WATER, England, Sept. 17 (UPI) -- Zach Johnson pulled close to a spot in the Top 10 in the men's world golf rankings with his win at the rain-delayed BMW Championship.

Johnson Monday had a bogey-free 6-under-par 65 Monday and passed Jim Furyk in winning the BMW Championship on Monday -- a result delayed by poor weather conditions Sunday.

It also installed him in the top five of the FedEx Cup standings. He'll be in the next-to-last group teeing off Thursday at the Tour Championship in Atlanta, with a good shot at claiming the cup and the $10 million check that does with it.

The result Monday also lifts him to 12th in the world rankings after being 24th last week. Furyk is right behind, improving from 15th to No. 13 after a third-place finish Monday and Nick Watney, who ended up second Monday, goes from 31st to 27th.

Tiger Woods, who is first in the FedEx Cup points, tops the rankings for a 649th week. He tied for 11th at the BMW Championship but still extended his lead for the No. 1 rankings over Adam Scott.
