Luiten shoots 66 to take lead at KLM Open

ZANDVOORT, Netherlands, Sept. 14 (UPI) -- Joost Luiten overcame wet and windy weather in his Dutch homeland Saturday to take a 1-stroke lead after three rounds at the KLM Open.

Luiten notched a 4-under 66 despite the inclement conditions at Kennemer Golf and Country Club to go 10-under 200 for the tournament, one shot clear of second-round co-leader Miguel Angel Jimenez.

"You knew it was going to be very tough today and par was a pretty good score," said Luiten. "If you said I would make par before we started I would probably have signed for it."

Luiten began the day three strokes behind Jimenez and Pablo Larazzabal. He bogeyed the first hole but strung together four birdies between the sixth and 12th holes and birdied 16 with a chip in and 17 on a 40-foot putt.

Jimenez shot a 70 on the round and fellow Spaniard Larazzabal had two double-bogeys while falling out of contention with a 77.
